Kingsbury South (KBS) to Monument Pass

The trail climbs steeply around to the east side of the mountain then gradually contours through its forest.

The trail opens up a bit as it gains altitude.

The trail returns to forest as it switchbacks up to a Heavenly Ski Area maintenance road.

Signs now point to follow the road.  This differs from the official TRT maps but there is no safe trail to follow so I follow the road.  After leaving the road the trail makes the steep climb towards Monument Pass.

Along the way I pass a tree that might be the oldest of its kind - its trunk is 1 and 3/4 bigger around than any other tree along the trail.  The trail continues climbing to Monument Pass.

The trail levels off as it arrives at Monument Pass.
