The Freel Triangle and the Ramp of Death

The use trail I hiked on to get to this portion of the TRT is NOT RECOMMENDED.  The trail featured an almost 3/4 mile section of maximum slope coarse sand.  The only analog to this is Lassen National Parks' Cinder Cone Interpretive Trail.  This required 4 inch steps and resting every 10 yards.  As such this access trail should be hiked by no one.
My hike on the Tahoe Rim Trail started at Freel Peak Junction.
The trail quickly crosses a saddle at 9500' and then contours around the north side of Freel Peak affording good views.

The trail then makes its lone switchback crossing a stream twice before curving southward towards Armstrong Pass.

Finally the trail arrives at Armstrong Pass and I take a much better access trail down to Fountain Place where my car is.
